Reiki is a Japanese system of meditative healing practice associated with Mikao Usui. Over time, different teaching streams developed. Two broad descriptions often used are Western Reiki and Eastern Reiki.
Owen has trained in both Western Reiki, through the Takata lineage, and Eastern Usui-based approaches. In practice, his sessions are kept simple, calm and client-centred. You do not need to understand Reiki theory to receive a session. The value comes from the experience itself: a quiet space to rest, settle and reconnect with calm.
Western Reiki commonly refers to the form of Reiki that spread through Hawayo Takata and her students.
It often emphasises:
structured hand positions
clear levels of training
treatment routines
lineage and attunements
practical hands-on healing
simple explanations suitable for everyday use
This is the form of Reiki many people in Australia first encounter.
Owen’s Western Reiki training provides a clear and practical framework for offering Reiki in a professional setting, with attention to consent, boundaries, client comfort and safe practice.
Eastern Reiki usually refers to approaches that draw more directly on Japanese Usui-based practices and later attempts to understand Reiki in its original cultural context. These approaches may place more emphasis on:
meditation
breath and awareness
spiritual cultivation
simplicity
intuitive or responsive practice
the Japanese Reiki precepts
the practitioner’s own meditative development
Eastern Reiki approaches can vary depending on teacher, lineage and interpretation.
For Owen, this Eastern stream supports a quieter, more meditative way of practising Reiki. It sits naturally beside Stillness Meditation, where simplicity, ease and direct experience are central.
Owen does not ask clients to choose between Western and Eastern Reiki.
Instead, he draws on both streams within a Stillness Meditation framework.
This means the practical emphasis is on:
relaxation
calm
stillness
respectful touch or non-touch
clear consent
client comfort
allowing the client’s own settling process to unfold
The session remains simple, quiet and client-centred.
There is no pressure to believe anything, visualise anything, or adopt any particular explanation. You are welcome to ask questions, but the session itself is experiential.
Stillness Meditation is central to Owen’s wider work. Reiki sessions are therefore offered not as a complicated energetic system, but as a quiet meditative touch therapy supporting rest, ease and balance. The aim is to help create conditions in which the body and mind can settle naturally.
A Reiki session may include:
stillness-based practitioner presence
gentle touch through clothing
hands held near the body
a non-touch approach
quiet rest
time to settle before and after the session
The process is fully explained beforehand, and you remain in control at all times.
You remain fully clothed during Reiki sessions.
Before the session begins, Owen explains what will happen and checks your preferences. You may choose:
light touch
hover or non-touch Reiki
seated or lying-down work
to pause
to change position
to stop the session at any time
You do not need to give a reason.
Reiki is offered here to support relaxation, calm and general wellbeing. It does not replace medical, psychological or psychiatric care.
