Dr Ainslie Meares MD, DPM was an eminent Australian psychiatrist, internationally recognised medical hypnotist, meditation teacher, healer and poet. He introduced the formal practice now called Stillness Meditation to the world. In doing so Meares also introduced mind-body medicine to the west in the 1950s-1960s. Stillness Meditation is a form of homeostasis - the ability to self adjust the mind to eliminate stress so we can cope better. Some people refer to it as self healing of body, mind and spirit. It is a natural function. When correctly taught and correctly practiced it can be learnt by everyone. You already have the ability, it is a matter of reawakening or re-learning that which lies within you.
Over time it is hope to put more information about Dr Meares as a subsection on this site. Meanwhile, www.mearesbook.com.au remains a separate external web site.
Owen's book, Dr Ainslie Meares on Stillness Meditation, includes a thorough biography about Dr Meares and his work. It is also suggested for those learning Stillness Meditation.
