Healing
I offer several healing pathways:
What to expect
Stillness Meditation Touch Therapy, Reiki and Therapeutic Touch have a lot in common. A general description is provided here. Sessions consist of:
An informal chat. Your preference are ascertained. Questions answered and arrangements for therapy agreed.
Therapy fully clothed either laying down or sitting. A blanket may be placed over clothes. Therapy often starts with a short guided meditative experience.
Touch depends on modality, client background & adjustments. Adjustments will be discussed and agreed at the start. Further adjustments may be requested at any time. Touch may include the following:-
Stationary or hovercraft like hands a few inches from body.
Hands placed on head, torso and limbs at tension centres (aka energy centres). A sequence or selected centres may be used.
Gentle brushing of limbs a few times (ie in Therapeutic Touch).
Plus adjustments requested.
Rest to allow the experience to fully develop.
Another chat after waking up.
Chats, therapy & rest take the time booked. During chats, clients are encouraged to ask questions.
The client experience
This is a good point to mention that Reiki and Therapeutic Touch describe the experience in terms of beneficial changes in energy flow. Whereas Stillness Meditation Touch Therapy describes it in terms of relaxation, reduced tension, reduced anxiety and so on. This is not the place for a comprehensive discussion of cause, effect etc. But, one key point is that reductions in anxiety, tension, fear and pain generally result in feelings of rest, restoration, freeing up and energy. Relaxation and flow are reverse sides of the same coin.
How a person approaches new experiences is relevant. Generally, client's feel relaxed and calm. Some clients say they feel sleepy, in a meditative state or tranquil. Individual responses vary. Some say they feel only a bit relaxed, but often report changes later on. A few may experience some discomfort, this usually settles or disappears over time. Reiki, some Therapeutic Touch practitioners and those of other modalities describe reactions similar to these as "healing reactions". Also, it is known that benefits occur for those who do not notice any reaction themselves (NB beneficial changes may be seen by the therapist but not the client). One example, is a client who carries a lot of stored tension but is unaware of that. During the session, they relax as tension is released and after the session some tension remains. It can be seen they are more relaxed but this category of client may be unable to feel the difference. If they continue to attend then as more stored tension is released the benefits will begin to be apparent to them.
