Those who wish to transition to Stillness Meditation Class must first meet with Owen. This intake meeting is a chat, some closely supervised Stillness Meditation followed by a further chat. Background information about the client, their goals and any modifications or adjustments needed during meditation teaching are discussed during the initial chat. The practice session follows that and then feedback is sought and given afterwards.
Intake meetings are sometimes undertaken for small groups.
Owen recommends that client's read Ainslie Meares on Meditation before seeing him. Discussion at the intake meeting further increases comprehension. Yet, knowing theory won't create change. Only practice brings the help. The intake meeting includes a Stillness Meditation practice session facilitated by Owen. Many people have experienced guided meditation and know that the guides talk interrupts the flow of their meditation. Each phrase can feel like a question that provokes thought. There is a better way, as the mind slows Owen uses presence and gentle touch (with any adjustments required for that client). Clients are offered touch to head and shoulders.
After the intake meeting further sessions can be arranged until a place can be taken up in the next Stillness Meditation group. Owen runs small classes (5-10 clients) and there is a waiting list.
Other people choose to experience ongoing private 1:1 tuition in Stillness Meditation in a bespoke program tailored to their needs. Private tuition means just one client is present and this enables more individualized attention than in a group session.
Between sessions with Owen, clients are encourgaed to practice Stillness Meditation for 10-15 mins twice daily. Owen sometimes suggests a specific regime for some circumstances based on some of Dr Meares' lesser known research and his own experience.
